Blumhouse and Todd McFarlane’s highly anticipated Spawn movie finally has an official title: King Spawn.

In a recent post on X/Twitter, Jason Blum’s renowned horror movie company revealed the title along with what appears to be part of a logo. While the update doesn’t divulge much about the plot, it reassures fans that the project is still progressing.

A Long Time Coming

McFarlane has been tirelessly working to bring another Spawn movie to life since the original live-action film premiered in 1997. The comic book creator has been vocal about his desire for a follow-up, discussing his plans as early as 2005. His dedication to the project has remained steadfast over the years, with several significant updates along the way.

  • 2016: McFarlane confirmed that a new Spawn movie was in development.
  • 2017: Blumhouse announced its involvement.
  • 2018: Jamie Foxx was confirmed to star.
  • 2020: Jason Blum revealed a new direction for the script.
  • 2023: McFarlane mentioned they were “nearing the finish line” and had seen 80 pages of the new script.
  • October 2023: A 2025 release date for King Spawn was anticipated.

Assembling an A-List Team

“My original plan has gotten tripped up a bit,” McFarlane told ComicBook.com last year. “We’re bringing on A-list people. Not just one, but multiple A-list people… What they’re not going to want is to do a cheap, low-budget movie with all of these big-name people on it. That’s not why they’re signing up. They’re not looking for a big extravaganza. But, they’re also not looking for an 8 million dollar horror movie budget.”

The writing team for King Spawn includes Matt Mixon, Malcolm Spellman, and Scott Silver. Although no specific release date has been set, if everything goes according to plan, more details from Blumhouse should emerge soon.

The journey to bring King Spawn to the big screen has been long and filled with hurdles, but with the official title now revealed and a talented team behind it, excitement is building among fans. Stay tuned for more updates as we edge closer to the anticipated 2025 release.
