Cleveland is looking a whole lot more Hollywood as the actors hit the streets of what’s becoming “Metropolis” for the new Superman movie shooting downtown.

The excitement is palpable in Cleveland as the city’s streets transform into the bustling backdrop of Metropolis for the upcoming Superman movie. Enthusiastic fans are flocking downtown, eager to catch a glimpse of the stars and witness the magic of movie-making in action.

“Superman was born here, and it’s only right that it should be filmed here in Cleveland,” said local resident Lisa Conner. Hundreds of fans are lining the streets, hoping to spot David Corenswet, the new Man of Steel. Despite the tight security, with streets blocked off and restricted views, the energy and anticipation are undeniable.

Cleveland’s Cinematic Charm

Cleveland’s impressive architecture is proving to be a perfect stand-in for Metropolis. Superior Avenue has been transformed into Concord Street, home to the iconic Daily Planet. Resident Jullian Mitchell shared his excitement, “Any movie production that they do down here, doesn’t matter if it’s an alien movie, doesn’t matter what it is, I’m going down here to see it.”

The city’s history with blockbuster films like The Avengers and Fast and Furious series makes it a favored location for filmmakers. Mitchell added, “It’s a great thing for the city with the whole history of our movies… It’s a great opportunity and this is great for the whole city just to see and watch how everything’s being brought up until the movies actually hit.”

The Stars Align in Cleveland

David Corenswet, best known for Netflix’s “The Politician,” made his Cleveland debut as Superman, delighting onlookers as he revealed the classic blue suit and red cape. This iconic look, complete with the famous red trunks, hasn’t been seen since Brandon Routh’s portrayal in 2006.

Joining Corenswet is Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, who showcased his character’s distinctive leather jacket with “Fair Play” written on the sleeves. Filming in front of the Metzenbaum U.S. Courthouse, the actors shot several versions of a scene involving a CGI ship and a disaster zone, under the direction of James Gunn.

Rachel Brosnahan, portraying Lois Lane, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White, were also spotted filming, adding to the star-studded excitement. Nicholas Hoult, set to play Lex Luther, was seen on set in street clothes, hinting at more thrilling scenes to come.

Embracing Superman’s Legacy

Cleveland’s connection to Superman runs deep. The superhero’s creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, grew up in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood. To honor their legacy, the Siegel & Shuster Society is raising funds for an 18-foot statue of Superman, ensuring the creators’ contributions are remembered for generations.

Filming continues at various iconic locations, including Mentor Headlands Beach State Park, with the city bracing for more road closures and detours. Despite the inconvenience, the community’s pride and excitement are evident.

As Cleveland embraces its role as Metropolis, it’s clear that the city’s cinematic journey is far from over. The transformation is not just a visual spectacle but a celebration of the city’s rich cultural and cinematic history.
