In the latest episode of Geek Freaks Interview, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the multitalented Jordan Morris to discuss his journey in the world of comics and his latest project, “Youth Group.” As a fan-turned-creator, Jordan’s story is both inspiring and fascinating, offering a unique perspective on the creative process behind some of the most engaging graphic novels out there.
From Fan to Creator
Jordan’s love for comics began long before he ever thought about writing them. “As someone who didn’t draw, it always just seemed like, well, a wizard makes these. Someone who has magical powers makes these. And you know, no matter how much I loved them, I could never be involved,” he recalls. This sense of awe and admiration for the medium eventually led him to take the plunge into comic creation.
His first major comics project, “Bubble,” a sci-fi comedy graphic novel, showcased his knack for blending humor with imaginative storytelling. Jordan co-wrote the book version of “Bubble” with Sarah Morgan, and it quickly gained a following. “Everyone should grab a copy of ‘Bubble,’” he says enthusiastically. The success of “Bubble” opened doors for Jordan, allowing him to pitch new ideas and explore different genres.
The Birth of ‘Youth Group’
One of those ideas was “Youth Group,” a project that had been simmering in his mind for some time. “Youth Group was another thing that I had pitched them. It was kind of a little nugget of an idea that I had always liked and thought it might be a fun thing to do in comics,” Jordan explains. The story, rooted in his unique blend of humor and creativity, promises to be an exciting addition to his body of work.
Expanding Horizons
Between working on “Bubble” and “Youth Group,” Jordan also contributed to the world of Archie Comics. His work on their “Chilling Adventures” series, which includes spooky, Treehouse of Horror-esque stories, has been a hit among fans. “I’ve done some of their ‘Chilling Adventures’ stories, which are the kind of spooky Treehouse of Horror, horror-type stuff, stories that they do, which I love. I love that line so much,” he shares.
