One of the greatest days for Nintendo fans has finally arrived as the big summer Nintendo Direct has been unveiled. Although there was no news regarding the much-anticipated Switch 2, Nintendo did reveal a plethora of exciting updates for old games and some surprising new titles that should make the wait for the Switch’s successor a little easier.

Among the highlights were The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which lets you play as Princess Zelda, our first look at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood, Super Mario Party Jamboree, the HD-2D remakes of the first three Dragon Quest games, and so much more.

Here’s a comprehensive roundup of the biggest announcements:

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

In a stunning reveal, Nintendo announced The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, set to release on September 26, 2024. This new installment will feature Princess Zelda as the main character, with Link and other residents of Hyrule mysteriously missing due to strange rifts. Zelda will work with a mysterious fairy named Tri to harness the power of the Tri Rod to create “echoes” of environmental elements. This allows players to manipulate their surroundings creatively, such as making “bridges out of old beds” or using “water blocks to reach new heights.” A limited edition, gold-colored Nintendo Switch Lite adorned with the Hylian Crest will also be released alongside the game.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

After more than seven years of anticipation, Nintendo finally showcased gameplay for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, announcing a release window in 2025. While details on Samus’ new adventure remain sparse, fans are eagerly looking forward to this long-awaited title since its initial announcement at E3 2017.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Mario & Luigi: Brothership will be launching on Nintendo Switch on November 7, 2024. This new adventure will feature the iconic brothers exploring Shipshape Island, a part ship, part island environment, with unique and vibrant art styles. Their journey will take them across various landscapes, encountering beloved characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.

Dragon Quest HD-2D Remakes

The HD-2D remakes of the first three Dragon Quest games are on their way to Switch. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D will be released on November 14, 2024, with Dragon Quest 1-2 HD-2D following in 2025. These remakes will bring the beloved classic RPGs to life with stunning new visuals.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

Set for release on January 16, 2025, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD will bring the classic platformer to the Switch with 2-player local co-op, including all levels from the original Wii version and the additional stages from the 3DS version.

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

This collection will bring seven beloved arcade classics, including X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, to the Switch later in 2024. It includes original arcade songs, development documents, and never-before-seen art.

Several notable titles will be added to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack later today, including The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Four Swords, Metroid: Zero Mission, Perfect Dark (with online multiplayer), and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.
