SpongeBob SquarePants’ iconic antagonist Plankton is set to claim the spotlight with his own Netflix movie, “Plankton: The Movie,” debuting in 2025. The first-look image released by Netflix on X/Twitter features the power-hungry owner of the Chum Bucket, Plankton, holding a controller with a big red button, grinning mischievously with Earth looming ominously in the background, and his pet Spot by his side.

Netflix announced the development of the Plankton-centric movie during its Next on Netflix press drop. According to Deadline, the animated feature will showcase Plankton’s life being turned upside down when his latest plan to take over the world collapses, much like his previous evil endeavors.

Mr. Lawrence returns to voice Plankton, joined by Jill Talley as Karen, Plankton’s wife and sidekick. Other beloved voices from the SpongeBob universe, including Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Clancy Brown, and Rodger Bumpass, will also feature in the spin-off.

Directed by Dave Needham, the movie has been in development for over four years and promises original songs. The story, set in the SpongeBob universe, is penned by Mr. Lawrence, Kaz, and Chris Viscardi, with Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller serving as executive producers.
