Following his massive success in Prime Video rom-coms “The Idea of You” and “Red, White & Royal Blue,” Nicholas Galitzine is set to take on a new iconic role. The rising star has been cast as He-Man in the live-action “Masters of the Universe” movie, a collaboration between Amazon MGM and Mattel Films.

While the plot details are currently under wraps, the film will be directed by Travis Knight, known for his work on “Bumblebee” and “Kubo and the Two Strings.” Chris Butler is penning the script, with previous drafts written by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee. The movie is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026.

The “Masters of the Universe” franchise, which debuted as a popular line of action figures in 1982, quickly expanded into an animated series, “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” in 1983. The franchise has since seen numerous adaptations in film and television, maintaining a strong presence through toys, video games, and other media.

Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed her excitement: “We’re thrilled to bring the beloved ‘Masters of the Universe’ to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man. Joining forces with director Travis Knight, Mattel, and Escape Artists, this reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”

Robbie Brenner, President of Mattel Films, added, “Mattel Films is proud to work with Amazon and team up again with the incredible Courtenay Valenti, to bring ‘Masters of the Universe’ to the big screen. We are thrilled to be producing alongside the highly respected and prolific Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch, with the visionary Travis Knight, and the charismatic and talented Nicholas Galitzine, our Prince Adam/He-Man!”

Nicholas Galitzine shared his excitement on Instagram, saying, “It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humour and heroism, I cannot wait to get started.”

Galitzine’s casting continues his rise in Hollywood. He recently starred opposite Anne Hathaway in Prime Video’s “The Idea of You,” which became the streamer’s No. 1 rom-com debut, attracting nearly 50 million viewers worldwide in its first two weeks. He also starred in “Mary & George” on Starz and the queer rom-com “Red, White & Royal Blue,” with a sequel in development.

Mattel Films, the company behind the Oscar-winning “Barbie,” is also developing several other live-action features, including “American Girl,” “Hot Wheels,” “Bob the Builder,” and “Polly Pocket,” among others.
