In a highly anticipated announcement, James Gunn has revealed the writing team for the upcoming Green Lantern TV series, “Lanterns,” under the DC Universe (DCU) banner. The team includes some of the most acclaimed writers in the industry: Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King.
Gunn took to Instagram to share the exciting news, stating, “Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns DCU series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof. A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family (no welcome necessary for old @tomking_tk, who has been here nearly since inception).”
“Lanterms” is set to be a “True Detective-type mystery” featuring two iconic Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Gunn elaborated on the show’s premise, noting, “That leads into the overall story that we’re telling throughout the different movies and television shows. And we find this ancient horror on earth, and these guys are basically super cops on Precinct Earth.”
Including Lindelof, Mundy, and King is a significant boost for the series. Lindelof’s impressive résumé includes three Primetime Emmy Awards for “Lost” and “Watchmen.” His other high-profile projects include “The Leftovers,” “Mrs. Davis,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Prometheus,” “World War Z,” and “Tomorrowland.” Mundy is best known for his work on “Ozark,” a critically acclaimed series, while King is a celebrated Eisner Award-winning comic book writer.
The announcement has generated a wave of excitement among fans and industry insiders, as the writing team’s pedigree promises a gripping and well-crafted addition to the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
