DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has confirmed that Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell will play the iconic roles of Jonathan and Martha Kent in the highly anticipated 2025 Superman film. Gunn made the announcement on Threads, celebrating the anniversary of his “favorite Kansas farmers.”
“Happy anniversary to my favorite Kansas farmers Ma and Pa Kent, who will be played by Pruitt Taylor Vince (an actor I’ve wanted to work with since I saw him in James Mangold’s Heavy in 1995) and the delightful Neva Howell,” Gunn shared.
Spotlight on the Kents
Pruitt Taylor Vince, known for his roles in films like Mississippi Burning, Jacob’s Ladder, and Constantine, and television series such as The Mentalist and The Walking Dead, brings a wealth of experience to the role of Jonathan Kent. Neva Howell, with credits including Ghosts of the Ozarks, The Resident, The Originals, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, will portray Martha Kent, adding a fresh dynamic to the beloved characters.
Superman: A New Beginning
The upcoming Superman film, previously titled Superman: Legacy, marks the first installment in the DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Although it’s not an origin story, the film promises to introduce a plethora of DC heroes and villains.

The Future of the DCU
Chapter 1 of the DCU includes both films and television shows. Although there have been some adjustments since Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran first announced the slate in 2023, the animated series Creature Commandos is set to officially kick off the new universe in late 2024.
