Get ready for some laughs (and explosions) because the Clown Prince of Crime is joining the fight! Warner Bros. and Player First Games just announced that The Joker, voiced by the legendary Mark Hamill, will be a playable character in the upcoming free-to-play platform fighter MultiVersus.
This is a huge pickup for MultiVersus, as The Joker is one of the most recognizable villains in pop culture. His chaotic energy is sure to shake things up in the already stacked roster that includes characters like Bugs Bunny, Shaggy, and Arya Stark.
The reveal trailer shows Batman charging into battle, only to be met by a trail of defeated heroes, including Bugs and Shaggy. The Joker then emerges, cackling maniacally, hinting at the mayhem he’ll bring to the game. We also see glimpses of his moveset, which will include using his iconic crowbar, throwing explosive playing cards, and unleashing devastating blasts from a rocket launcher.
But what makes this addition even more special is the fact that The Joker is voiced by Mark Hamill, who many consider to be the definitive portrayal of the character. Hamill first brought The Joker to life in Batman: The Animated Series and has since reprised the role in countless animated projects and video games, including the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham series.
Interestingly, Batman in MultiVersus is voiced by the late Kevin Conroy. The two actors’ performances in Batman: The Animated Series are considered iconic, and they’ve brought their talents together in various projects over the years. However, Conroy sadly passed away in 2022, leading Hamill to announce his retirement from voicing The Joker, stating that “Without Batman, there is no punchline.”
MultiVersus seems to have presented a unique opportunity for Hamill to give fans one last hurrah alongside Conroy. This could be the final video game where we hear this legendary duo share the stage, making The Joker’s inclusion in MultiVersus even more special.
