Warner Bros. Discovery is setting a new course that may lead to the disappearance of several games published under its Adult Swim Games label from Steam and other digital storefronts. This move is part of a broader strategy that has seen similar reductions in the company’s film and television offerings, including the cancellation of nearly complete projects like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme, and the removal of series from streaming services. With at least three games confirmed to be under threat and the fate of others uncertain, the gaming community is facing a potential loss of over 18 titles.

The decision came to light following announcements from game developers associated with Adult Swim Games, including Owen Reedy and Michael Molinari, who have shared their experiences and the challenges they face with the publisher’s plans. Reedy, the developer behind the puzzle-adventure game Small Radios Big Televisions, revealed that his game was being “retired” and made it available for free on his studio’s website in response. Similarly, Molinari received notice that his game, Soundodger+, would be removed from Steam within 60 days, with Warner Bros. Discovery citing “logistical and resource constraints” as the reason for not transferring ownership back to developers.

Developers have expressed frustration over the impact of these decisions on the preservation of their games and the gaming community at large. Republishing games independently would result in the loss of valuable community content, such as downloads, reviews, and forum discussions. Furthermore, Warner Bros. Discovery’s stipulation to remove all mentions of Adult Swim Games complicates efforts to preserve the history and credits of these games accurately.

As Warner Bros. Discovery proceeds with its plans, developers and the gaming community await further developments, hoping for solutions that respect the contributions of all parties involved and preserve the legacy of the affected titles.
