the latest update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, patch 1.002.000, has inadvertently given fans a glimpse into a possible future expansion for the game. This recent patch, intended to introduce New Game+, additional suits, and other enhancements, accidentally exposed a development game menu that not only unlocks settings for items, enemies, and health but also seems to hint at an upcoming downloadable content (DLC) featuring the Beetle Villain Arc.

Insomniac Games, the developer behind Spider-Man 2, has issued a cautionary statement to players regarding this unintended menu, warning that it could lead to corrupted save data and interfere with trophy progression. However, this warning hasn’t deterred the community’s curiosity. Among the discoveries was a series of nine options related to the so-called ‘Beetle Villain Arc’, including a tantalizing mention of a ‘Beetle Janice Intro’. This intro sheds light on the identity of the Beetle as Janice Lincoln, the daughter of the super-powered mobster Tombstone, who is portrayed as a reformed villain in Spider-Man 2.

In the Marvel comics, Janice Lincoln adopts the mantle of Beetle, donning a suit of armor to battle heroes such as Captain America and Black Widow. Despite her notable absence from the base game of Spider-Man 2, this revelation aligns with data leaked earlier in the year, suggesting plans for her inclusion. Moreover, Spider-Man 2 has already teased fans with the prospect of Carnage DLC, indicating Insomniac’s interest in expanding the game’s narrative through additional content.

The future of the Beetle DLC remains uncertain, with neither Sony nor Insomniac Games providing official comments. Insomniac has, however, announced that a fix for the developer menu is forthcoming. Since its launch in October of the previous year, Spider-Man 2 has achieved remarkable success, with sales surpassing 10 million copies. This achievement comes amidst broader discussions about the future of Insomniac Games, especially following recent layoffs as part of a wider series of cuts at Sony.

As anticipation builds over what Insomniac might unveil next for Spider-Man 2, fans are left speculating on the potential of the Beetle Villain Arc and how it could enrich the already expansive world of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
