James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, has finally given the world its first glimpse of David Corenswet in the iconic Superman costume. This early peek comes before Corenswet’s highly anticipated debut in the 2025 blockbuster, “Superman.” As the first cinematic venture in the ambitious reboot of the DC Universe by Gunn and Peter Safran, the film is penned and directed by Gunn himself.
David Corenswet, celebrated for his roles in “Pearl,” “Hollywood,” and “Twisters,” steps into the legendary role of Superman, sparking widespread excitement since his casting last summer. The unveiling of the costume, particularly the debate over the inclusion of Superman’s traditional trunks, has been a hot topic among fans.
James Gunn shared the excitement of commencing principal photography for “SUPERMAN” on February 29, coincidentally aligning with Superman’s fictional birthday. Gunn’s journey from the initial script draft, originally titled “Superman: Legacy,” to the final version, simply named “SUPERMAN,” reflects a clear vision for the film, set to premiere in July 2025.
“Superman” is set to explore the titular hero’s internal battle to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas. The narrative promises a modern take on Superman’s quest for truth, justice, and a brighter tomorrow, emphasizing human kindness in a cynical world.
The star-studded cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and a host of other talented actors embodying beloved DC characters. Gunn’s enthusiasm for the project is palpable, as he anticipates the film’s release with a stellar cast that promises to bring fresh energy to the DC Universe.
Scheduled to hit theaters exclusively on July 11, 2025, “Superman” marks a new era for DC films, promising a blend of heart, heroism, and high-stakes drama that fans have long awaited.
