Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced during the Q4 earnings call that a Harry Potter TV series is slated for release in 2026 on the Max streaming service, promising seven seasons to correspond with J.K. Rowling’s novels. This venture marks a significant revival for the franchise, over a decade since the last film’s release.
Zaslav, along with HBO and Max content leaders, has met with Rowling in London to discuss the project, indicating mutual enthusiasm for rekindling the magic of Harry Potter for a new generation. The series will introduce a fresh cast, diverging from the original films, as Daniel Radcliffe has expressed no interest in returning. Warner Bros.
Television’s Channing Dungey has stated that the series’ development is underway, with efforts focused on selecting a showrunner before proceeding with casting, especially considering the younger ages of the characters in the initial books.
Rowling, amidst controversies over her views on gender, humorously addressed potential boycotts of the series, underscoring her involvement and the anticipation surrounding this adaptation. “Activists in my mentions are trying to organize yet another boycott of my work, this time of the ‘Harry Potter’ TV show. As forewarned is forearmed, I’ve taken the precaution of laying in a large stock of champagne,” she posted on Twitter
