Lionsgate has released the trailer for “Borderlands,” an eagerly anticipated movie adaptation of the Gearbox video game, starring Cate Blanchett and directed by Eli Roth, set to premiere on August 9. The film, which co-stars Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black, brings to life the story of Lilith, an outlaw who returns to the planet Pandora to find a missing girl, leading to an unlikely alliance with a group of heroes to combat alien threats and bandits. Based on the popular video game series that debuted in 2009 and has sold over 77 million copies worldwide, the movie aims to capture the game’s unique blend of Western and sci-fi elements. Despite production delays due to COVID and reshoots under Tim Miller, the project has been compared to “Guardians of the Galaxy” for its mix of action and humor. With a strong ensemble cast and production team, “Borderlands” is poised to be a significant competitor at the box office, launching alongside “Flint Strong” by Amazon MGM.
