The Walt Disney Company has officially announced the release of Moana 2 in theaters on November 27, 2024. The surprise announcement included a brief teaser featuring Moana on a beach, accompanied by Maui’s voice at the conclusion.
According to the official description, “Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2 takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui, and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers.” After a sudden summons from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana embarks on a perilous journey to the far seas of Oceania, delving into long-lost and treacherous waters for an adventure unlike any she has encountered before. Directed by Dave Derrick Jr. and featuring music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina, Moana 2 is set to premiere in theaters on November 27, 2024.

Additionally, a first-look image of Moana 2 has been unveiled, showcasing Moana, Maui, and others aboard a boat sailing alongside a whale shark. Given the resemblance of the animal to Moana’s grandmother, who was depicted as a manta ray, it is plausible that the whale shark represents one of her ancestors.
