Australian actress Milly Alcock, known for her portrayal of young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, has been cast as Supergirl in the upcoming DC Universe helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Rising Star

Alcock’s performance in the Game of Thrones spinoff has garnered significant attention, leading to her representation by top agencies including CAA, Shanahan Management, Entertainment 360, and Curtis Brown.

Beating the Competition

In what was a highly competitive process, Alcock triumphed over notable actresses such as Emilia Jones of CODA and Meg Donnelly, who previously voiced Supergirl in DC animated features like Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.

The Future of Supergirl

While there’s speculation that Alcock’s Supergirl might debut in Gunn’s Superman Legacy, currently set to start filming in Georgia, this remains unconfirmed. What is certain, however, is that she will appear in a DC project prior to starring in her own feature, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This project, still awaiting a director, is based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series, with Bilquis Evely as the illustrator.

A New Take on Supergirl

James Gunn has expressed a distinct vision for this iteration of Supergirl, noting her more harrowing backstory compared to Superman. “She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing,” said Gunn during the DC studio press day announcement.
