Universal Pictures is resurrecting its iconic dinosaur franchise with a new Jurassic World movie, set to potentially release in 2025.
Two years after dinosaurs last roamed the Earth in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, Universal Pictures is not letting its colossal franchise become extinct. The studio is actively developing an all-new Jurassic World movie, with David Koepp, the esteemed writer of the original Jurassic Park (1993) and its sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), returning to script the new project.
New Era for Jurassic Franchise
The project, which has been quietly progressing, is reportedly well underway, with the script already gaining favorable reviews. This development has sparked discussions about a possible 2025 release date. While no director is yet attached, the film will be produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, both veterans of the Jurassic World trilogy. Steven Spielberg is set to executive produce under his Amblin Entertainment banner.

A Fresh Direction
Details about the movie’s plot remain under wraps, but it is described as the beginning of a “new Jurassic era” with an entirely new storyline. This seems to indicate a departure from the characters portrayed by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the Jurassic World series, as well as those from the original Jurassic Park films, played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum.
The use of the title “Jurassic World” rather than “Jurassic Park” suggests the franchise may be exploring new territories beyond the traditional park settings. Could this be a hint towards a more futuristic or even cosmic direction for the dinosaurs (Jurassic Space, anyone?)?
Legacy of the Jurassic Franchise
The Jurassic series has been a cornerstone of Universal’s film legacy, with the 1993 original redefining special effects and leaving a lasting impact on pop culture. Spanning three decades and six movies, the franchise has amassed over $6 billion globally. The original Jurassic Park was an adaptation of Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel.
The project will be overseen for Universal by Sara Scott, executive vp of production development, and Jacqueline Garell, creative executive of production development.

David Koepp: A Veteran Screenwriter
David Koepp is a seasoned screenwriter with an impressive portfolio, including the original Mission: Impossible (1996), the first Spider-Man movie (2002), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). His recent works include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Steven Soderbergh’s Presence, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Koepp and Soderbergh are also collaborating on a highly anticipated project titled Black Bag.
