Ravensburger, the renowned game publisher, has recently unveiled new details about the competitive events for their popular Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game. This announcement includes the inaugural World Championship set for 2025, marking a significant milestone in the game’s journey.
Competitive Circuit Launch and World Championship
Lorcana, which launched in September 2023, initially began with a hobby store program but had no official competitive events. However, this is set to change with the introduction of a competitive circuit starting in May 2024 for North America and Europe.
Regional Tournaments and Championships
Players can compete in regional-level tournaments known as Disney Lorcana Challenges. The top four competitors from these challenges will earn invitations to the North American or European Championships, scheduled for Q4 2024.
Path to the World Championship
The highest-ranking players from these championships will secure their spots in the much-anticipated World Championship in 2025. Although the World Championship is invite-only, it will also feature a larger competition open to other players.
Upcoming Event Details
Ravensburger has promised to provide more information about event dates, prizing, and other details in March 2024.
Local Competitive Events: Set Championships
In addition to the regional and international events, Ravensburger is introducing Set Championships for local competitive scenes. The first event, named the Into the Inklands Championship, aligns with the release of an upcoming set. These events, hosted by local hobby stores, will feature exclusive prizes like the Enchanted Stitch – Rock Star Promo card.
Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway: A Beginner’s Path
Addressing beginners, Ravensburger announced Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway. This two-player game is designed to teach the basics of the game, progressively introducing different card types and mechanics. Set to be released on August 9, 2024, at a retail price of $24.99, this product is an excellent starting point for new players.
2024 Expansion Release Dates
Ravensburger has also revealed the release dates for four expansions in 2024:
- Into the Inklands: February 23, 2024 (Hobby Shops and Disney Parks), March 8, 2024 (Mass Retail and shopDisney)
