Fans of the iconic Bill & Ted franchise have a reason to rejoice as Alex Winter, who played Bill in the series, teases the potential of a fourth movie. In a recent interview on The Sarah O’Connell Show, Winter revealed that the original writers, Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson, are exploring ideas for a new installment.
The franchise, beginning in 1989 with “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” followed the amusing escapades of two lovable but dim-witted aspiring rock stars, Bill and Ted. Their adventures through time and space became a cult phenomenon, culminating in 2020’s “Bill & Ted Face the Music”. While this third film seemed to be the final chapter, recent developments suggest otherwise.
“We’re tinkering with a fourth movie idea that all of us like,” Winter said. The key to moving forward, he emphasized, is ensuring that the script resonates with all involved, including co-star Keanu Reeves. He stressed that the Bill & Ted movies have never been about commercial success but rather a sincere expression of their unique creativity.
The Criteria for a Fourth Film
Winter highlighted that for the fourth film to happen, it must meet the approval of the core team – himself, Reeves, Solomon, and Matheson. “It has to be right,” he insisted, acknowledging the non-traditional nature of the Bill & Ted series and their dedication to maintaining its integrity. The idea for the new script is described as “really good” and “kind of obvious,” but Winter remained tight-lipped on the details.
Alex Winter’s Current Project: Destroy All Neighbors
While Bill & Ted fans eagerly anticipate more news, Winter is currently involved in another project. Destroy All Neighbors, now showing in select theaters and on Shudder, features Winter as Vlad, a noisy neighbor to William Brown (Jonah Ray Rodrigues), a neurotic musician. The film is described as a twisted splatter-comedy, laden with practical effects and a journey of bizarre self-discovery.
