Smite World Championship 2024 Unveils Sequel to the Renowned MOBA

In a groundbreaking announcement at the 2024 Smite World Championship, the gaming world was introduced to the much-anticipated sequel to the beloved multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), Smite. Titled Smite 2, this new game promises to retain the essence of its predecessor while introducing a plethora of upgrades and new features.

What is Smite?

For the uninitiated, Smite stands apart from other MOBAs like League of Legends or Dota 2 due to its unique third-person perspective, placing players directly amid mythological battles. It’s designed for both PC and console play, offering an immersive experience with a blend of strategy and action.

The Leap to Smite 2

Developed on the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 is a leap forward in gaming technology. Travis Brown, General Manager at Titan Forge Games, describes the sequel as a culmination of a decade’s worth of experience in crafting one of the most successful multiplayer games. The new game will feature:

  • Visual and Animation Overhauls: Enhanced graphics, animations, and effects for a more immersive experience.
  • Gameplay Improvements: New abilities, a revamped matchmaking system, fresh map features, and an intuitive new UI.
  • Strategic Depth: Fundamental adjustments for more strategic gameplay, including changes to character builds and item use.

Smite 2’s New Features

  • 5 New Gods: Starting with Hecate, the Greek goddess of sorcery.
  • Revamped Item Store: Easier adaptation of builds during gameplay.
  • Removal of Relics: Simplifying gameplay mechanics.
  • Crossplay: Available on PC, Steam Deck, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

The Legacy Continues

Despite these exciting developments, the original Smite game will continue to run independently, with ongoing updates. Smite 2 is not a replacement but an evolution, acknowledging the legacy of its predecessor while forging a new path.

Looking Ahead

Smite 2’s alpha playtest is slated for Spring 2024, with sign-ups already open. The game’s launch is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Smite universe and a new chapter for its passionate community.
