HBO’s hit post-apocalyptic drama ‘The Last of Us’, based on the popular PlayStation game developed by Naughty Dog, has announced a significant casting update for its much-anticipated second season. Isabela Merced, known for her roles in ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ and ‘Sweet Girl’, is set to join the cast as Dina, a key character in the upcoming season.
A Crucial Addition to the Ensemble
Merced’s character, Dina, is described as a free-spirited individual who becomes Ellie’s new romantic interest, as well as being Jesse’s ex. The role requires a complex blend of warmth, wit, and resilience, qualities that the show’s co-creators, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, believe Merced embodies perfectly. They described Dina as “warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable,” and expressed their excitement about Merced’s addition to the cast.
Reunion with Kaitlyn Dever
This casting also marks a reunion for Merced with Kaitlyn Dever, who is set to play Abby in the upcoming season. Both actors previously starred together in the 2022 movie ‘Rosaline’. Young Mazino will join them as Jesse, completing the trio of major additions to the show.

The Last of Us: A Story of Survival and Heartbreak
‘The Last of Us’ narrates the story of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who traverse the post-apocalyptic United States, twenty years after civilization’s collapse. The series is lauded for its emotionally charged storytelling and has been a critical success.
Filming Shifts to Vancouver
As reported by Deadline, the production of Season 2 will move to Vancouver, reflecting the Pacific Northwest setting prominent in ‘The Last of Us Part II’ video game. Filming is scheduled to begin in February.

Merced’s Rising Career
In addition to ‘The Last of Us’, Merced’s burgeoning career includes several high-profile projects. She is involved in Sony’s ‘Madame Web’, ‘Alien: Romulus’, ‘Ballerina Overdrive’, ‘Turtles All the Way Down’, and DC’s ‘Superman: Legacy’.
