Oscar-nominated actor Steven Yeun, renowned for his roles in “The Walking Dead,” “Invincible,” and “Minari,” has unexpectedly exited Marvel’s upcoming film “Thunderbolts.” Initially reported to play the character Sentry, a superhero with immense power, Yeun’s departure is attributed to scheduling conflicts following the Hollywood writer and actors’ strikes in 2023.

About the Film

“Thunderbolts,” originally slated for a July 2024 release, faced a pushback to July 2025 due to these industry-wide strikes. The reshuffling of schedules ultimately led to Yeun’s inability to commit to the project.

Directed by Jake Schreier, known for his work on “Paper Towns” and various music videos, “Thunderbolts” is expected to feature a unique blend of antiheroes and villains from the Marvel Universe. The storyline revolves around this group reluctantly working for the government. Key cast members include Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, among others.

Yeun’s Continuing Legacy

Despite his exit from “Thunderbolts,” Steven Yeun remains a prominent figure in comic book adaptations. He continues to voice the character of Invincible in the Prime Video animated series. His work has consistently garnered acclaim, highlighted by his Academy Award nomination for “Minari.”
