Ana Nogueira, an emerging talent in screenwriting and a seasoned actress has been selected to pen the screenplay for ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’. This standalone feature, part of DC Studios’ new slate, focuses on Superman’s Kryptonian cousin.

The appointment of Nogueira as the writer marks a significant step in the development of ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’. While the project currently lacks a director, Nogueira’s involvement has been confirmed following the closure of her deal with DC Studios.

This project represents a second chance for Nogueira with Supergirl. Initially, she was hired in 2022 to write a Supergirl movie, envisioned as a spinoff of ‘The Flash’, with Sasha Calle playing the titular role. However, the project was shelved as DC Studios, under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership, aimed to create a new slate separate from the vision of former DC Films boss Walter Hamada.

Gunn and Safran were impressed with Nogueira’s work on the initial Supergirl project and have now brought her back, even offering her an overall DC writing deal. The new ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is inspired by the comic book mini-series by Tom King, released between 2021 and 2022, which sought to redefine Supergirl as a more complex character than just a female version of Superman.

In the comics, Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El, is depicted as having a more jaded personality, having been raised on a fragment of Krypton and witnessing the death of those around her. Along with her superdog Krypto, she becomes entangled in a young alien girl’s quest for revenge across the galaxy.

Ana Nogueira is not only an accomplished actress, known for her roles in ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘The Michael J. Fox Show’, and ‘Hightown’, but she has also established herself as a playwright and screenwriter. Her play ‘Which Way to the Stage’ debuted off-Broadway in 2022, and she’s currently adapting Alice Sola Kim’s short story ‘Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters’ for Warner Bros.
