Johnny Hardwick, the voice actor of Dale Gribble on King of the Hill, died on August 8 at his home in Austin, Texas. He was 64.

Hardwick had been with the show since its debut in 1997 and had also worked as a producer and writer on the show. He was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the show in 1999.

Hardwick’s death was confirmed by the Austin coroner’s office. No foul play is suspected.

In a statement, Hulu and 20th Television Animation said, “Johnny Hardwick was an incredibly beloved member of the King of the Hill family, whose tremendous talent, brilliant humor and friendship will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to work with him over the past 25 years.”

The Hulu revival of King of the Hill is still in production, and it is unclear if Hardwick will be able to finish recording his lines for the show.

Hardwick’s death is a major loss for the King of the Hill family and for the animation community as a whole. He was a talented actor, writer, and producer, and his work on King of the Hill will be remembered for years to come.
