Square Enix has officially announced “Dawntrail” as the highly anticipated fifth major expansion for the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV. The reveal took place during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2023, where fans were treated to exciting details about the upcoming expansion set to arrive in the summer of 2024.

The director of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida (fondly known as Yoshi-P), expressed his dedication to the game, stating that he wants to continue working on it “until I die or even afterward.” With such passion behind the development, players can expect a remarkable experience with Dawntrail.

The story of Dawntrail takes a refreshing turn, offering players “the very best summer vacation a hero could possibly have” following the events of the previous expansion, Endwalker. Set in the “New World” of Tural, a land located far west of Eorzea over the ocean, players will embark on a journey to assist in a rite of succession to determine Tural’s next ruler. The rite involves a contest that leads to the gates of a legendary “fabled city of gold.” However, the Scions, beloved characters in the game, may face division as they become involved in this contest.

In the new hub city of Tuliyollal, located within the larger region of Yok Tural, players will find a diverse and harmonious community focused on living in harmony with nature. The city is ruled by Gulool Ja Ja, a two-headed Mamool Ja, and the contest at the heart of Dawntrail revolves around determining his successor.

Dawntrail introduces an array of exciting features and content for players to explore. Allied tribes, including the Pelupelu race, known from Final Fantasy X and X-2, will make their debut. These short, bird-mask-wearing characters excel in trade and beverage-making. Additionally, the level cap will increase from 90 to 100, granting players access to new skills for all jobs.

The expansion will also introduce multiple new jobs, with Yoshi-P confirming that they will include both a melee and a ranged magical DPS role. Furthermore, players can look forward to new dungeons, enemies, raids, and a variety of lifestyle content to enrich their gaming experience. PvP enthusiasts will also receive updates to enhance their battles.

One of the most exciting announcements for Dawntrail is the game’s first major graphical update. The NPCs and environments will see a significant visual upgrade, providing a more immersive experience. The increased object limit in areas will allow for greater detail, while improvements to plants and vegetation will enhance the beauty of Tural’s forests.

In the world of fashion, players will have the opportunity to dye their gear with two colors instead of one, and the addition of eyeglasses alongside headgear will offer further customization options. Housing enthusiasts will also be pleased to hear that the limit on furnishings will be increased.

For those who have not yet delved into the world of Eorzea, Square Enix has prepared an extended free trial, expanding from the end of Heavensward to include all content in Stormblood up to the start of Shadowbringers. This move will surely entice more players to join the adventure.

In a final surprise announcement, Final Fantasy XIV will finally be making its way to Xbox consoles, thanks to the collaboration between Square Enix and Xbox head Phil Spencer. This news opens up new horizons for the game, allowing even more players to enjoy the immersive world of Eorzea.

With the impressive success of previous expansions such as Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and the recent hit Endwalker, fans can rest assured that Dawntrail will continue the tradition of delivering engaging and in-depth storylines, offering countless hours of thrilling gameplay.

As the countdown to summer 2024 begins, Final Fantasy XIV enthusiasts and newcomers alike eagerly anticipate the next chapter in this beloved MMORPG. Dawntrail promises to be an unforgettable adventure, inviting players to embark on a journey that will leave a lasting mark on the world of Eorzea and the hearts of its heroes.
