The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) franchise, co-created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984, has remained a beloved and enduring series for decades. Recently, a successful revival of the TMNT comics line occurred with the hit series, “TMNT: The Last Ronin.” Now, fans can rejoice as IDW Publishing has confirmed the development of the highly anticipated sequel, “TMNT: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution.”

The news of this exciting continuation was first revealed during an IDW panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and it was shared exclusively with IGN. “Re-Evolution” will bring together the original Last Ronin creative team, including co-writers Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, artists Ben Bishop, Esau Escorza, and Isaac Escorza, colorist Edgar Delgado, and letterer Shawn Lee.

The storyline of “TMNT: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution” follows a new gang of TMNT, namely Yi, Uno, Odyn, and Moja, who were introduced in the last pages of the first “Last Ronin” series. These new mutants must carry on the legacy of their predecessors and face the challenging task of rebuilding New York City after the devastating damage caused by Shredder’s grandson in the previous series.

Fortunately, they won’t be alone in their efforts, as they will receive guidance from sensei Casey Marie Jones, the daughter of Casey Jones and April O’Neil.

The original “TMNT: The Last Ronin” series, published from 2020 to 2021, captivated audiences as it followed Michelangelo on a gripping revenge mission after the rest of the Turtles were tragically murdered in an attack by the Hand. Set in the near future, the series drew inspiration from Frank Miller’s “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns,” presenting a darker and grittier vision of the pizza-loving reptilian heroes, as well as their allies like April O’Neil and their arch-nemesis, Shredder.

The popularity of “The Last Ronin” has even prompted Nickelodeon, the owner of TMNT, to commission a video game adaptation based on the series, demonstrating the immense impact it has had on the franchise.

Stay tuned for further updates here at Popverse, and mark your calendars for December 13, 2023, when the first issue of “TMNT: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution” is set to hit shelves, inviting readers to immerse themselves once again in the captivating world of the heroes in a half shell.
