Image Comics has announced a new comic book series called The Holy Roller, co-written by comedian Andy Samberg and Fall Out Boy‘s Joe Trohman. The series is about a bowling ball-wielding vigilante who fights back against a Neo-Nazi invasion of his hometown.
The comic is described as a “darkly comedic superhero series” that is “a cross between Kingpin, Inglourious Basterds, and Batman.” The creative team also includes artist Roland Boschi and colorist Dave Stewart.

Samberg said that he was inspired to create the comic after seeing the rise of white nationalism in the United States. “I wanted to write a story about a Jewish guy who takes on Neo-Nazis,” he said. “I think it’s an important story to tell, especially right now.”
Trohman added that the comic is also a personal story for him. “I grew up in a small town that was overrun by Neo-Nazis,” he said. “This comic is a way for me to process those experiences and to tell a story that I think a lot of people can relate to.”
The Holy Roller #1 will feature an array of variant covers by some of comics’ top talent, including J.H. Williams III, Brett Parson, Keron Grant, Brian Level, Mike Hawthorne, and Rafael Albuquerque.
Check out a few of those variant covers, as well as an interior preview of the first issue, below. The 42-page The Holy Roller #1 is due out in stores and digitally on Wednesday, November 22nd.

I’m excited to check out this new comic book series! It sounds like a great mix of humor, action, and social commentary.
