Renowned filmmaker James Cameron has seemingly confirmed that he is working on multiple sequels to 2019’s Alita: Battle Angel.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Cameron said that he will be working in Austin on the Alita sequels, which is why he is selling his coastal ranch in California. This is the most promising update so far for fans who have long called for an expansion of the Alita franchise.
Producer Jon Landau has also revealed that he is talking to director Robert Rodriguez and star Rosa Salazar about a new film, and actor Christoph Waltz has already indicated that he would be game for returning.
Alita: Battle Angel is based on a popular manga of the same name and follows the trials of a cyborg girl who awakens in a scrap pile. With no memory of her past, Alita must navigate the dangers of the dystopian sci-fi world she finds herself in while coming to terms with her true nature.
The film was a critical and commercial success, but it failed to reach the box office heights that some had predicted. Despite this, Cameron has always been vocal about his desire to make more Alita movies.
It remains to be seen whether Disney, which now owns the rights to the Alita franchise, will greenlight multiple sequels. However, Cameron’s comments suggest that he is still very much interested in making more Alita movies, and that he has a number of ideas for where the franchise could go next.
Fans of Alita: Battle Angel are eagerly awaiting news about the sequels. It is clear that Cameron is passionate about the franchise, and it is exciting to think about what he has planned for the future.
