Twitch, once the dominant livestreaming platform, faced competition from rivals like YouTube and Kick. The popularity of Twitch grew in the late 2010s and further skyrocketed in 2020 when people sought entertainment while staying indoors. However, the recent signing of popular streamer xQc by Kick has caused some streamers to believe that this could be the final blow for Twitch.
The deal to secure xQc, who consistently attracts tens of thousands of viewers, came at a significant cost. Additionally, Twitch received criticism for its Partner Plus program and a controversy surrounding its now-reversed rules on “burned-in” advertisements. These issues have frustrated many streamers and left them uncertain about Twitch’s future.

Streamers like Mizkif and the organization OTK have expressed doubts about Twitch’s prospects. Mizkif, while not as popular as xQc, is associated with one of the largest organizations in the livestreaming space, and all its streamers currently call Twitch home. OTK also threatened to leave Twitch due to the ad changes but has not made a definite decision about their future on the platform.
Even Asmongold, a prominent streamer, reached out to Kick after the xQc deal was announced. If he were to switch platforms, Twitch would lose another streamer with a significant following. MoistCr1TiKaL also took a dig at Twitch in response to the situation.
The outcome for Twitch remains uncertain. It is unclear if the platform will retaliate against Kick by signing more streamers to exclusive contracts, or if Kick’s rise will continue to challenge Twitch’s dominance.
