Microsoft has been fined $20 million by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for “illegally” collecting children’s information on Xbox. The FTC has also sued Microsoft to block its purchase of Activision Blizzard, claiming that the acquisition would give the Xbox maker too much power. The UK has also blocked Microsoft’s Activision deal, with the decision being based on cloud gaming tech that no one understands. Xbox has promised to keep Call of Duty multiplatform, among other concessions, in an effort to ensure the merger is allowed to complete. The FTC has requested more documents from Microsoft, including information about ZeniMax and the next-gen gaming ecosystem. The FTC argues that the acquisition would “enable Microsoft to suppress competitors to its Xbox gaming consoles and its rapidly growing subscription content and cloud-gaming business.”
