Microsoft’s Mixer attempted to topple the game streaming giant Twitch, but on June 23rd they surrendered. Mixer will be shutting down and partnering with Facebook Gaming. Starting immediately, Mixer partners and streamers will be moved to Facebook Gaming with all Mixer services ceased by July 22nd. The move will be a hit in viewership as Facebook refuses to budge in their negations with Apple meaning that iPhone users will no longer be watching. The big names that signed on to Mixer like Ninja and Shroud are now free to move back to Twitch if so desired. Mixer’s closure leaves three big game streamers left to compete: Facebook’s Facebook Gaming, Google’s YouTube, and Amazon’s Twitch.
